TAPESTRIES WITH SOUL

Qomle'ec women use the wool they shear from Creole sheep to create tapestries, rugs, cushions and works that represent the animals of their territory turned into the guardians of the house.

Through four rinses, they remove the dirt from the fleece. After washing, they air-dry it before applying natural dyes. They use leaves, bark, and fruits from which they obtain a variety of colors. A reflection of a culture lively, cheerful and strong.

The wool is processed on a spinning wheel that produces excellent quality yarns for weaving garments.

The magic happens on the vertical loom. There, the designs of indigenous cosmology appear, abstractly representing the flora and fauna of their territories.

MATRIARCA , the cooperative of indigenous women artisans from the Gran Chaco region of Argentina, has incorporated spinning wheels, both pedal-powered and electric, to improve the quality of the artisans' work. In addition, it collaborates with various institutions to improve sheep farming and increase wool production.
